１２７４年文永の役で、鷹島に上陸した元軍は、我が防衛軍の不備に乗じて島民のほとんどを虐殺しました。船唐津免の開田付近は当時山深く、人目につきにくい山奥に一軒家の８人家族が住んでいたところ、不幸にも飼っていた鶏が鳴いたため元軍に発見され、８人のうち７人が殺され、灰だめに隠れていたお婆さん１人が助かったと言われています。それ以来、開田では鶏を飼わないと伝えられています。
